On the Evening of Friday May 9th 2025, Whittier High School brings you the Annual Whittier High School Dance Showcase where all fellow dancers from every grade, class, school and types of dancers put on a splendid showcase of their amazing skills and work. Here, the audience experienced all different types of movement and genre music that goes well with the dances. In dance, all of us dancers mainly learn the concepts of Jazz and Ballet movement in most dances. Every dance class typically involves exploring different dance styles, learning basic movements and techniques, and developing creative expression through movement. So, without further Ado, the dance show officially starts with Whittier High School’s talented Cardinal Dance Company proud to present their first pre-beginning Jazz dance called “It Don’t Mean A Thing” by singers Tony Bennette and Lady Gaga.

The dance was very Jazzy-like (it coordinated well with the song) I liked the cute, created outfits with the little black hats. Overall, the dance was quite interesting and it had a lot of Jazz movement that every dancer had put into the dance. After the transitioning to the next dance piece, our wonderful and amazing dance coordinator, Ms. Brunel greets the amazing audience with a hearty welcome to come seeing this year’s dance show. With that said, here we have Period 5 Dance 1 performing their piece that they performed for Evening of the Arts, “Work For It” by singer, Daphne Wills & LÒNIS.

Their performance was spectacular and stunning with the rhythm of the choreography, and how much energy these dancers expressed in their performance! Next, we have another CDC performance choreographed by student, Mia Cornejo called“Splish Splash” by singer Bobby Darin.

The dance was quite spectacular to look at with all the dance moves. Next we have CDC’s performance “Irresponsible” by singer Emei and choreographed by Mia Cornejo.

The dance was very hype and fun to watch with all the fast dance movements. These dancers had a lot of energy that’s been put into this dance piece. Next we have the amazing follow-up guests Dexter Middle School is now performing their dance piece called “LA LA LA LA” by Greek singer Marina Satti.

These young talented dancers perform their wonderful dance moves that are coordinated with this Greek/Irish song. All the dance moves were very wonderful and interesting to look at. Next we have Whittier High School Song from Cheer/Song, performing their amazing dance piece.

Their song mix was really outstanding as they danced with their music. The dance moves were very thrilling with the hip hip dance music. Next Period 4 performs their dance “If I Can’t Have You” by singer Kelly Clarkson.

The dance was quite spectacular and stunning with all the amazing turns and arm movement that’s been put into their dance. Moving on, we have CDC dancers Ruby Romero and Pamela Rodriguez performing their dance piece that has been performed for this year’s Whittier’s Got Talent and won the Audience Choice Award for best hip hop dance. Their performance is coordinated with their 90’s hip hop song “Finesse” by popular singers Bruno Mars and Cardi B.

I can tell everyone in the audience happily enjoyed their dance with the amazing, outstanding and outgoing dance piece this duo has created. The dance moves were very hype, and there was a lot of energy put into this dance to entertain the audience with a little 90’s hip hop during this year’s dance show. In the middle of the dance show, apart of being in CDC, it requires a lot of student choreography and being creative with your own dance moves. It can also be easy to be solo with your own dance piece. So, ladies and gentlemen, here we have two amazing dance solos in the midst of our dance show. First, we have solo dancer, Lupita Hernandez as she performs her solo with her song “Take Me To Church” by singer Hozier.

This dance is a lyrical piece based on emotions and how the singer feels in their voice. The dance moves are very extraordinary and very Ballet like. The moves work well with the music and the way the song sounds. It’s like a powerful feeling in the dance moves you dance to and the song you are performing to. Our next solo dancer is Rosario Hernandez as she performs her solo with her song “Dream On” by Song Group “Aerosmith”.

This dance piece is also a lyrical piece based on the singers emotion and the feeling in the artist’s voice when they sing. The moves were very strong and very lyrical-like with the rhythm of the song. I hope to see more solos in the next upcoming dance shows in the next 2 years! Next, we have Period 1, Dance 2,3,4 performing their lyrical piece called “Love Like This” by Ben Rector.

This song has a powerful meaning in it that when we dance to this song, it represents sadness, emotional feeling and a wonderful love song dedicated to the person’s other half. Next we have Katherine Edward’s Middle School performing their amazing hip hop dance with their song, “Lose Control” by Missy elliot. Their dance was very surprising to see and the dancers had amazing talent in their overall dance piece. Lastly, we have Period 1 Dance 2,3,4 as we perform our Jazz dance piece called, “Abracadabra” by singer, Lady Gaga.

Our dance was very smooth, very energetic that all of us were focused and we danced big. Our moves were very intense and strong throughout the song and towards the end when we did our final pose before those blue lights came on. This dance had made me think about all the dance moves and how much practice we put into that dance. Finally, we end the show with our wonderful bows. First, Dance 1 Period 4 bows, Next Dance 1 Period 5 bows, Next Song bows, next Period 1 Dance 2,3,4 bows, Dexter bows, Edward’s bows, Longfellow bows, and lastly, the hardworking Cardinal Dance Company does their bows. We dance with our last proud seconds of thinking how wonderful we’ve put on a show. As the stage curtain reaches the bottom, we all hug each other, we celebrate and we think about all the wonderful memories we made from our prior dance shows till now. I know this is my second dance show, but it’s also the senior’s last time performing on stage and the night they will forever remember.

And this is the Amazing and fantastic Dance Show of 2025 with all the creative dancers. Thanks to Cardinal Dance Company, Dance 1,2,3 and 4, the wonderful guests, Longfellow, Dexter and Katherine Edward’s, ATC (aka Auditorium Technical Crew) for putting a wonderful showcase for this night’s event. And thanks to the brilliant and amazing Ms. Brunel for teaching us these dance moves, rehearsing and performing them for the audience so they can see what talent Dance is all about
Thank you. – Leilani H.
