Dear newcomers of Whittier High school, if you are a dancer, or consider wanting to take a dance class for your freshman year, then you have a lot of options available. I am proud to share with you a preview of a Dance 1 Honors class that will be added as a new elective in Dance for 2025-2026. Dance 1 seems challenging but it’s not that hard once you find out you know and remember all the steps and techniques about the course. Dance teacher Ms. brunel is the current Dance & Theater Arts Coordinator for Whittier High School. She will teach you all about the ballet technique, correct body alignment and foot, arm and body positions. For instance, teach you all the five foot/arm positions when ballet dancing. Center floor work, Pirouettes, high kicks and locomotor movements such as ballet walk and run, jazz walk and run. Learning jazz techniques such as, moving/isolating all body parts, foot and arm positions, and various arm styles. Mainly floor work, Jazz runs and chasseś. Jazz patterns and an entire dance routine whether itś given student choreography or its repeating and performing the instructor’s choreography.
So. If you are interested in taking a regular dance class with learning normal techniques, or wanting to challenge yourself a little bit more, then either talk to your counselor or meet the dance teacher when you have your first day of school and see if you are interested in dance 1 honors.
